"My work is ultimately about identity, memory, transformation, and the enduring power of culture."
Aik Agu is a Nigerian-Canadian visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores African identity, cultural memory, spirituality, and symbolism. His work spans painting, sculpture, wood-panel art, mixed media, and upcycled materials, transforming discarded and everyday objects into meaningful works of art.
Deeply influenced by his Nigerian heritage, Agu incorporates elements of Nsibidi and Uli into contemporary compositions, using traditional visual languages to explore ancestry, identity, spirituality, and the connection between past and present.
With formal training in Art and Design, specializing in Sculpture, Agu approaches his practice as both an artist and a cultural storyteller. His use of upcycled materials reflects his belief in transformation—that materials, stories, and cultural knowledge that might otherwise be forgotten can be given new life and meaning.
As a Nigerian-Canadian artist, Agu's work bridges African heritage and contemporary global experiences. Through his art, he seeks to preserve cultural memory while reinterpreting it for a new generation and an international audience.
